Finally, the Lake Oswego Lakers can call themselves state champions.

After spending the last decade among the state's elite football programs, only to fall agonizingly short in the postseason, the Lakers used signature performances by senior tailback Steven Long and their defense to claim their first championship trophy Saturday at JELD-WEN Field.

Though the Timbers Army is known for belting out "Can't Help Falling in Love" in the 85th minute of every home match, few may know that Elvis first arrived in the building in 1957. Here is the story.

In the moments after their semifinal win over Central Catholic on Saturday, Sheldon players couldn’t help but think ahead to a showdown with Lake Oswego in the OSAA Class 6A football final.

Burned into their memories is the last meeting between the teams, when Lake Oswego went to Sheldon last year and dominated the Irish 45-14 in the quarterfinals. It is Sheldon’s only loss in the last three seasons.

The chase for the Class 6A football state championships started in the first week of September with 43 teams.

Three months later, the field is down to four: Central Catholic, Jesuit, Lake Oswego and Sheldon.

The adidas Portland Timbers Team Store will be offering extended holiday hours at their flagship store at JELD-WEN Field.  Beginning November 25, the store will be open Monday-Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Guests will be able to view the brand new KeyBank club level restaurant, the fully equipped D.R. Horton community and meeting room, 12,600 square foot Widmer Brothers Southern front deck area and other outside event spaces throughout the stadium.
